Poster Slides

For our purposes Slides are basically digital versions of printed posters. The same design principles for print apply to digital content. Poster Slides appear in the theater panel, the central focus of a display. Creating a poster slide simply involves uploading an image file from your local computer that meets with a standard configuration that fits with the presentation layout. The main difference between a poster slide and say a photo, is graphics including text are included in the poster to communicate your messaging.

Note: Currently ScreenScape supports .jpg, .png and .gif files. Whatever editor you choose to create your poster ensure that it is saved in one of those formats. Slides may be automatically re-sized to suit a particular screen but the proportions should always be consistent. The ratio of the original image will be maintained by the system during the upload and conversion process. The recommended resolution for all poster slides is:

Poster Slides = 1024px Wide x 768px High at 72 dpi
Poster Slides (full screen, wide screen) = 1280px Wide x 720px High at 72 dpi
Maximum file size is 4MB

Images should be no more than 72 dpi, as that is the maximum resolution a screen can display. It's important to keep poster dimensions within those limits for best system performance and display optimization.

Poster slides can be set to play in full screen mode on your display, the better the quality of the image you upload to the widget the better the output will be on your screen.

Tips

Use LARGE type and use it sparingly.

Less really is more. Don't try to cram as much content as you can into your poster slide. If there is a lot of information to convey, a series of slides using the same background can best communicate your messaging. Strong headlines and minimal body content work best. Always keep your audience in mind, are they in a waiting room, do you have their full attention? These instances allow for slightly more text, but in most cases your viewer is passing by or at a distance from your display.

Use a background that is in distinct contrast with the text.

High contrast between the messaging and the background is necessary. Avoid very busy backgrounds and colors that are similar in contrast to the text being used.

Use Standard Colors

Red creates blurring effects on most monitors and should be avoided or less saturated particularly when used as a background color.

Image Safe Zones

A 50px safe zone around all 4 edges of your poster will ensure that your poster gets re-sized properly over various landscape and portrait formats and various screen resolutions.

Templates

Try some of our template backgrounds to use as a base for creating your poster slides. Use image-editing software to add whatever text you'd like. They can be found here.
